Admission requirements at Laval University:

Admission to Université Laval is mainly based on academic excellence. In order to be accepted into a programme, you must hold the minimum required diploma for the level of studies you are pursuing and demonstrate an adequate level of French proficiency. Admission requirements vary from one program to another. Above average results or a Director of Graduate Research, among others, may be required.

Since most of the courses offered at Université Laval are in French, you must have sufficient knowledge of the language to enter the university. After applying, non-French speaking applicants must take the Test de connaissance du français (TCF) to assess their level of proficiency in the French language.

Depending on your TCF results, you may be required to attend French immersion courses in addition to your qualifying courses. If your results are below the required minimum, you will have to improve your French before starting the qualifying courses. Laval University offers a variety of French language services to students.

Although the TCF is the main proficiency test, the DELF, TFI and TEF test results from the past two years can be accepted, provided they include a written expression component.
