Memorial University of Newfoundland, is a public university based in St. John’s, with several affiliated universities. Memorial University offers certificate, diploma, undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as online courses and degrees. Includes Memorial St. John’s Campus, Corner Brook, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Harlow (in England).
Founded in September 1925 as a living memorial to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who died in World War I, Memorial is one of the largest universities in Atlantic Canada, and the only University of Newfoundland and Labrador. As of 2018, there were 1,330 faculty members and 2,474 staff supporting 18,000 students from nearly 100 countries.
Memorial University has seven faculties (Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, and Science) and six faculties (Graduate, Music, Pharmacy, Human Mobility, Entertainment, and Social Work). These offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Memorial Business School is recognized as a leader in Canadian business education, offering undergraduate and graduate-level programs, including Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of International Business, Bachelor of Business Administration, MBA, Master of Labor Relations and Doctorate degrees.
Students can choose to major in the following engineering disciplines: civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, ocean and marine architecture (joint degree), engineering management, and process engineering.
St. John’s University campus is home to the Medical School located within the General Hospital of the Health Sciences Center Newfoundland. The School of Medicine awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in medicine, with internships and advanced training available. It is one of only four medical schools in Atlantic Canada (the other being Dalhousie University School of Medicine, University of New Brunswick Medical Training Center and University of Moncton Medical Training Center.
The Department of Biochemistry has a Dietitian-accredited Nutrition Program in Canada and graduates of the university may later become registered dietitians.
Queen’s College, an affiliated college of Memorial University, offers diplomas and degree studies in theology, pastoral studies, church history, and related programs. It is an associate member of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, and has 166 students.
