The University of Gdask was founded in 1970 by the merger of the prestigious Sopot Higher School of Economics (in existence since 1945) and the Gdask College of Education (established in 1946).

At present, the University of Gdask is the largest higher education institution in the North Pomerania region of Poland. The university is proud of a significant scientific achievement that imposes its leading position, particularly through activity and research related to the sea. In this regard, the university has participated in cooperation with scientific research centers from almost all over the world.

The University is participating in the creation of a network of European universities selected in the “European Universities” competition organized by the European Commission. Together with its partners, the University of Cadiz (Spain), the University of Split (Croatia), the University of Brittany Occidental (France), the University of Kiel (Germany) and the University of Malta (Malta).
