Fifth: Universities in Turkey do not require English

Most Turkish universities depend mostly on the applicant’s academic background and aptitude tests such as TOEFL and IELTS or the GRE and GMAT exams. However, students who do not possess an English language proficiency certificate can take the proficiency test of the Turkish university they are enrolled in when they arrive in Turkey. If they fail the test, they must enroll in the English language program at this university before registering for the major they desire.

English language programs in Turkish universities last for a full year, which is considered as a preparatory year and is not counted among the academic years required for graduation.
